Easyling Release Notes – 2018 February

As another month goes by, so does another round of development for the Proxy. Along with some minor bugfixes and enhancements, we have rolled out the ability to use the Highlight View with work packages, as well as serving outdated content to search spiders. See the full details after the jump!

Highlight View with Work Packages

While we have long had the ability to display the contents of a given work package in the List View, it was only recently that we were made aware of a use-case where the Highlight View needed to function with work packages. Not ones to shy away from a challenge, we got to work, and a short while later, a new ability was born.
The Highlight View can now be used to select a work package, and as long as the site hasn’t changed (which can be ensured using source caches), the Translator/Reviewer can use the targeting reticle to select and edit entries in the work package, useful for processing set units of content.

Stale content for bots

When operating a popular site, a lot of traffic can come from search bots. Google, Bing, Yahoo!, Baidu, etc. – those bots can add up, and generate a lot of proxy requests by crawling the site, which can get heavy on your budget. Fortunately, they tolerate outdated content.
With our new feature, available on request, we can make it so that for a certain time, even after the regular Cache-Control headers expire, we keep serving the same content, identifying offending agents based on their User-Agent headers. This way, your human visitors will continue to see the latest content, while requests from spiders are short-circuited and your monthly proxy fee is kept to a more believable level.
